What kind of sewing machines/sergers do you sew with?

Yes, more than happy. Ive sewn very fine viscose through to layers of denim with no trouble at all. Ive made jeans and a denim jacket without any problem. You have an option to have the back tac and thread cutter on the back of the foot pedal which is a bonus. There is also a floating foot option for sewing through layers, the foot is raised slightly so your layers dont get crushed. Great machine

@angiekey I’m so sorry to read about your post-Covid :eyes: eyesight woes .

I’m 51yo, and very near/short-sighted (I’m -7 on one side & nearly -6 dioptre the other). I find now a days that I need reading glasses :eyeglasses: when I’m using my sewing machines or when cutting out fabric to get my vision to be as crisp as I want it to be. I bought from my opticians a pair of inexpensive glasses (still tailored only to my particular eyes) solely for reading & sewing… I wonder perhaps if you spoke with your own eye care provider if they might be able to do something similar ?

Regarding oiling the Brother 1034D serger/Overlocker at home. I’ve a YouTube playlist of videos saved that you may enjoy here :point_right:t3::link: Sewing - Oil Overlocker, Brother 1034D

My top tips when unscrewing everything :screwdriver::gear::nut_and_bolt:…
:one: :camera_flash: :framed_picture: Take photos of the parts that you unscrew as you go to remember where to put them back afterwards (I even use a pencil :pencil2: to point to them in my :framed_picture:).
:two: Get a bunch of little bowls :bowl_with_spoon: (or lids from jars work too) to keep the :nut_and_bolt::gear: nuts & screws in and if it helps you also label the bowls with scraps of :page_facing_up: or a post-it-note too.
:three: Vacuum + wipe away dust/debris first, then oil with only the teensiest drop :droplet: of sewing machine oil (NEVER WD40!) on all metal-on-metal moving parts.

Sewing Machine - Bernina 575QE Kaffe edition with embroidery module. I love this machine. I’ve barely touched the embroidery function but have sewn many garments and it can handle 12oz heavy sweatshirt and fine chiffon equally well.

I also own an old New Home Memory Craft 4000. I got this new about 30 years ago and sewed on it until this past July when I got the Bernina. It desperately needs a spa day with the shop. It’s never had one and I sewed a lot on it when I first got it. It sat barely used for over 10 years. When I got it back out it just didn’t stitch well any more. Not sure what it’s future is, outside of a stop for a spa treatment. It served me well for many years.

Serger - Juki MO2000 QVP - Just got this. Taken as a trade by my local Bernina dealer. It’s barely used, came with all the feet options still in their packages. He gave me a great deal on it, and even gave it a through check before I picked it up. He gave me a Juki MCS1700 QVP Coverstitch machine with it for no cost. Still figuring out what I plan for it. I don’t have a use for it so will likely sell it

Coverstich - Babylock Euphoria - I love this machine. I’ve sewn several garments with it since I got it a few months ago and it’s done twin needle top stitch on many fabrics without skipping a stitch. Super easy to thread with air threading and needle threaders built in

Combo Machine Pfaff7000 (DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS MACHINE AT ALL) - Got this a year ago and this is a piece of junk. Expensive junk. It isn’t all that hard to swap modes, and with air threading easy to thread but that’s the end of the positives. It skips horribly when Coverstitching. Which is why I got the Euphoria. It was an adequate serger so I continued to use it for a few months till it finally struggled to sew even 1 layer cleanly. I took it back to the dealer for a check, and they said it needs both blades replaced. Pfaff is just not a good and quality machine any more. I didn’t realize when I bought it that they’d been bought out. I plan to get rid of this but not sure exactly what I plan for it. I just don’t have the patience for such a finicky machine. The Juki/Babylock machines are handling anything I throw at them with ease. The Pfaff has had some issue with most everything I’ve sewn.

I have a Viking Sapphire 930 that I use for everything. I don’t have a serger because I hate the way serged clothes feel so there isn’t much point.

I have a Janome 9400 and have just gone over to the dark side and purchased a Bernina 475QE.

I have always been a Janome girl, but have decided to give another brand a go - our local sewing shop closed down and they had some really good deals.

Both are amazing machines

Coverstitch Janome 3000 and Janome Overlocker 744D.

Ooh, good to know. I have a Janome 5060QDC which has been great value but it does struggle a bit with thicker fabrics and I feel like it’s time for an upgrade. I have my eye on the DX7, so good to know you’re having a good experience with it.

I bought myself a BERNINA 735 a year ago when I received a legacy. Prior to that I had a mid range Brother. I would not part with my new machine for all the tea in China.
My overlocker is a Babylock Victory and again I love her

My local store has a nice variety of labels. Five Eighths Seams in Charleston. You can also buy from Etsy

I sew on a Viking Designer Diamond Royale, a Juki TL2010Q, and a Babylock Triumph

I LOVE my Babylock Triumph. I have had it for a little more than 2 years. So easy with the air threading, love the throat space and the clearance from the top to bottom. It is a joy to use. So fast to rethread and fast to change from serger to coverstitch.

I’m obviously not very loyal to one brand…
I have a Janome sewing machine, Juki overlocker and Babylock coverstitch. I love them all equally except last week when the Janome wouldn’t do buttonholes - turned out to be a problem with the foot attachment not the machine so she is forgiven.

I have 3 sewing machines

A very basic Janome 1980’s model that was my dad’s, can never part with her and she lives in my car boot for sewing groups.

A 1970’s vintage husqvarna viking - a real workhorse that can get through anything.

My everyday machine is a Singer Serenade which I bought in Lidl Portugal in 2022. It was only €200 but I absolutely love it and use it daily.

I have an Elna Pro 664 overlocker,
