What kind of sewing machines/sergers do you sew with?

I sew with a Brothers Dream Machine. She is a work horse! I also have a Babylock Triumph Serger.

I have a Janome 5060QDC sewing machine - it has loads of features for a reasonable price point (including one step buttonholes and thread cutter).

My overlocker is Brother 3034DWT which is super easy to thread so I’m really happy with it!

Sewing Machines: Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116 is my main, but I have a Brother machine as a backup. I forget the model. The Husqvarna is a workhorse! Sews many layers of denim easily.

Serger/Overlocker: Juki MO654de

Coverstitch: Juki MCS 1500

Embroidery Machines: Baby Lock Meridian 2 is my new bestie! I started on a beginner Brother PE500.

It’s Bernina all the way for me! My first Bernina 1090 lasted 40 years and I have just moved on to a B790 sewing machine and L890 Overlock/Coverstitch Combo to see me through the second half of my life!

I have 11 machines (I have a terrible habit of buying bargain vintage machines online)… my baby is my ā€˜Novum New Mark IX’ (an all metal, probably 1960s vintage zigzag, high-shank model). I bought it in 2010 on eBay for under Ā£20 (including the delivery fee for the courier costs). It weighs a tonne - maybe 15-17 kgs.

The Novum can take speciality industrial presser feet - which I can buy for like £3 on eBay (bargain!).

I am also extremely fortunate to own an overlocker/serger the ā€˜Brother 1034D’, and a Coverstitch machine too my ā€˜Janome CoverPro 1000CPX’.

The bottom picture is my first ever machine a Novum Mark III that my late Grandma bought for me in the late 80s

So cool that you use a vintage machine for your daily sewing! I bet it’s super sturdy. Great job on getting such a bargain

My primary workhorse machine is a Bernina B475 (and I love it!).

I went with the Brother brand for both my serger (1034D) and coverstitch machines … but someday, I’d love to upgrade to a Bernina brand serger!

And my parents were able to pick up a ā€œlow-mileageā€ Husqvarna Designer Diamond Royale for less than $1k as an AMAZING gift for me. It’s a 10 year old model, but it was almost never used; in fact, most of the embroidery stuff was still in the OEM factory packaging! I use that machine exclusively for embroidery, which I’m still learning.

Most of my sewing is done with a brother XR9550.

I also have my great grandmother’s Domestic Rotary 153. It’s nearly 80 years old and still running strong! One day, when I have a bigger sewing space to keep it open easier, I plan to have it as my main machine, or at least use the two equally!

Sewing Machine - Necchi NM2000. I think it’s an Aldi special.
Overlocker - baby lock Enlighten
Coverstitch - Janome CoverPro 2000CPX

I’d like to get a new general sewing machine at some point as I’ve had this one for nearly five years and would like some more bells and whistles. I’m also saving up to replace my coverstitch with a baby lock instead, probably the Euphoria.

I am in love with my baby lock Enlighten, though. She’s a beautiful workhorse.

It’s lovely to use and I can service it myself - no computerised parts. Oil n clean is super simple :gear::screwdriver::wrench::nut_and_bolt: :ok_hand:t3:

Snap twins :women_with_bunny_ears: on the Serger (Overlocker) 1034D!

Mine has been going strong since 2012… 13 years! Again, she’s never been for a shop service - I’ve unscrewed all the covers, cleaned + oiled all the moving metal parts myself.

If I was ever to upgrade my Overlocker I’d keep her as a reliable back up :+1:t3:

Sewing machine: Juki DX5. Janome HD 3000 is my backup
Serger: Juki MO 654 DE
Coverstitch: TBD… Waffling on if I ā€œneedā€ one

I started sewing ages ago but took maybe a 20 year break. My biggest regret now is donating my Mom’s old Elna sewing machine when I stopped sewing.

Oh my word, @ClaireSews - thank you so much for sharing this info with me! Knowing that yours is 13 years old and going strong makes me feel really good about my decision to go with Brother. If mine holds up as well, there will only be one reason for me to upgrade to a Bernina or BabyLock in the future … air threading. I’m only in my 40s, but had to have eye surgery thanks to cataracts that formed from high steroid doses when I was hospitalized with COVID, and my near vision pretty much sucks these days. I worry the time will come when I’ll struggle to thread the needles on my serger (more so than I do now).

As i started sewing bags, quilts and homewares before clothing I bought the Juki DX7 with a big throat space, it is also brilliant with layers for bag making. I love my Juki DX7 my backup is a Janome Atelier 3 and my son recently bought me the Brother M343D overlocker which is just a dream to use and thread

I love my bernette b35. Use it for almost all of my sewing, unless it’s a serger only project.
My serger is a singer profinish. Does the trick.
I also have a vintage singer from late 1920s or early 1930s.

I was looking at a straight-stitch machine (Janome HD9) for bag making as my little Necchi can’t handle the layers, but I didn’t want to have more machines than I need. I’ll have to look into the Juki. Are you happy with what it can do for garment sewing, too?
