I bought a label stash folder from Little Rosy Cheeks. It’s intended for storing your sew-in labels but I thought I’d give it a go for organising my buttons.
Really pleased with the result - now I can browse all my buttons like trading cards! I’ve organised the pages by colour to make it really easy to find what I’m looking for.
Each sheet has 8 pockets (4 front and 4 back). My buttons were already in little clear bags from my previous storage system so I kept them in the bags and have put two bags of buttons in each pocket.
When my favourite fabric shop closed in December, the owner let me have the empty button tubes. I have a large button collection, which includes some from my late grandmother.
My aim is to keep each box to a different colour + label the lid with the sizes in mm.
To measure the sizes accurately (as I own a lot of buttons that I don’t know the measurements of) I use some Vernier Calipers that I got for about £1 on eBay years ago.
I love this idea. I have mine in small boxes with dividers but they take up a lot of space in my drawers. Your folder is a great idea to keep them all on a shelf with my patterns
This is so cute! I currently have about 8 jars of various sizes sorted by color so I couldn’t put them all in one folder buuuttttt this would be fantastic for those “special” buttons. It sucks dumping out an entire jar just to get a matching set!
They came all mixed up. Either from thrift shops or “inherited”. The ones that are together I try to keep together in baggies or on their cards.
I don’t think I could just Willy nilly throw them in either
Mine were all in a tin which I inherited from my grandmother. A few years ago I sorted them by colour in bags, but it was still difficult to find matching buttons.
What were these grandmas thinking with their mixed buttons probably lots of them are what I call ‘orphan buttons’ where there’s only one of that type. Likely loads of those spare buttons they give you when you buy a blouse
