How do you upload books?
I just did realise that there is the format option “book”. I had hesitated yet to upload my books…
Like when there are multiple patterns in a book, do you copy the table of contents?
I don’t have many “normal” sewing books. But as a costumer/re-enactor I got a lot of books with diagrams of historical garments…
I don’t have any books with patterns currently, but if I did I’d probably do one record for each pattern, then put in the description/notes the page number of that specific pattern. Maybe a tag for each book, too.
For the historical garment diagrams, maybe you could put those in as inspiration? That’s what I do with pretty much any image I want to have saved that isn’t specifically a pattern/fabric
@TheWizard @BlossomSandwich I wonder if indexing pattern books could be something Stash Hub would be interested in? Eatyourbooks.com is a site that indexes cookery books (indexes are crowd sourced) so you can search for a recipe across all your books. Building something similar for pattern books and magazine would be really useful. I’d be happy to get involved if this ever makes your agenda!
Hi @cecile👋🏼, I’ve just created a forum post here where I share how I plan to record patterns from books into the app
.
Cool idea and definitely something we’d be interested in doing. It’ll be a lot of work though so might have to hold-off for a bit.
Absolutely, and only a nice to have, not critical in any way - it would definitely be a major project to get off the ground.
When I enter patterns from books, I put the book name in the “location” field. Since I only have a couple of books and they are all stored on the same shelf, this works well for me. For the page numbers I just rely on the index in the book, though that assumes there is a good one.
@kittyzf That’s a good tip the pattern kinda lives inside that particular book
after all
That’s what I do. I get photos from the website and use the book as location.
