Tracking time⏳(hours) spent working on a Project

[I originally posted this on the Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1B7WkMQ7oa/ on 10th August 2024.]

This “might” be useful for anyone who is curious to know exactly how many hours :hourglass_flowing_sand::timer_clock::watch: they’ve spent cumulatively on a sewing :sewing_needle::thread::scissors: Project.

I sometimes use a Timesheet app to track time spent on a sewing project.

I can then write into the “Notes” section of a Project that it took “X hours to complete”.

Sometimes we get a whole day or weekend free to knock out a new dress :dress: or :womans_clothes: and it’s easy to say “𝐇𝐞𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐦𝐞 𝟕.𝟓 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞”.

Other times, we trace the pattern, 3 weeks later we pre-wash the fabric, half a year later it’s finally time to get to stitching that baby up :joy:. So, from start to finish it “seems” like 214 days to complete a Project .

99% of StashHubApp users aren’t going to be worried about tracking hours spent working on a project. So, IMHO a time-hours tracking *feature is highly unlikely to get added to the app. (*Currently, you can see date started + completed for a given Project in the app.)

But, sometimes if we could inform the non-sewers in our lives the total number of hours worked and kinda told them what an hourly pay :heavy_dollar_sign::pound: rate would be to make that thing they say “𝐎𝐡, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 - 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲!” that would be eye :eyes: :exploding_head: opening to people who thinking making your own clothes is cheaper!

So… sometimes I use a Timesheet app to track time spent on a sewing project. (Those apps are often used by gig workers or freelancers to accurately charge for their hours worked.)

There’s loads of free + paid time tracking / time management apps to choose from

I have the Toggl track app. It’s free. You can also have lots of projects and just switch between them.

Thanks for introducing Toggl there. I have been trying it out for the last two days and its exactly what I’ve been looking for to track my time.

Ive not used Toggl or a timesheet app but i try to keep a record. Sometimes its hard because i get interrupted in the process to make food or the kids need something. I make a good overall guess. I also like to know how long it takes to cut out. Some patterns are super quick but other take more planning.
