Tips for organizing usable scraps

I would love to hear ideas for organizing usable scrap fabrics. I sort them into big bins by type but forget to look in the bins.

I put mine in drawers vertically so I can open the drawer and see little slivers of all the smaller pieces I have.

Aaaah I love this question. What kinds of scraps do you come up with? Are you mostly garment sewing, wovens vs knits..??? I’m a quilter first so I’m excited about this question.

The ones I stacked vertically were cottons. The knits I can’t fold nicely I roll. I sew clothes and do some quilting.

I have all kinds of scraps. I was gifted my mother in law’s collection of quilting fabric. I mostly sew garments and have a wide assortment of fabric types. I’ve got them stored in bins but out of sight out of mind.

ohhhhh ok i have more questions! so now you have quilting fabric…are you planning to use it? or to give it away (or sell it e.g. on feelgood fabrics or similar)? do you need ideas of what to do with quilting cotton besides make quilts?

Saw this on Pinterest and thought it was a gorgeous way if you have the space

I organise mine into boxes of things that are a similar size - small ones that I could use for applique, or a small bit of colour blocking etc, and then larger ones that could be turned into sleeves, the front panel of a kids tshirt, pants etc.

Thank you! I like that approach.

I have an old Vanish Powder tub that I store mine in - everything smells wonderful when I open the lid
