if anyone wants to share advice about tension and stay-stitching i’m available! also…pretty quilty pictures ![]()
This is going to be an amazing quilt! Love the colours you’ve chosen and all the consideration that’s gone into getting the most out of your materials. Your replacement fabric is an almost perfect match!
One some sewing machines (with front loading bobbins) you can adjust the bobbin tension by tightening or loosening a little screw on the bobbin case. But yeah, trial and error is really the only way to get the tension right, annoyingly! At least it’s a good way to put those offcuts to use!
thanks! i’m so so pleased with the color replacement…the pale yellow with yellow polka dots will need replacement soon too so wish me luck!
i have a top-loading/drop-in bobbin situation, and of course there are two kinds of sewists (i think)…those who change their bobbin tension and those who WOULD NEVER. i’m the latter, but…i don’t think i will always be in that category. but yes practicing on scraps! till i get it justttttttttttt right.
oh also i had success with the last bit of stay-stitching, just decreasing the stitch length. i think i put it at 3.2? and that seemed fine!
Late advive, but still… when I stay stitch I start centre curve and stitch to the edge, then repeat the other half from centre to outer edge. Also i alwaysmake sure im feeding the fabric a little ahead of normal to keep the feed dogs from having to pull the fabric in and risk stretch. It may seem a faff but it controls the Stretching best. I hope this makes sense
never too late!!! and yes i do think i’m understanding you and you’re explaining it well, thank you!
i wonder if dropping the feed dogs would be appropriate here?
Ive never considered that, and I dont know the answer. Interesting thought though
if i think to experiment with this, i’ll try and report back!
