I’m in search of a reliable sewing pattern for a t-shirt made from stretch fabric. I sew a lot of non stretch garments so need one with simple techniques. What’s your favourite?
I use a lot of patterns from Patterns for Pirates. Many of their patterns are very beginner friendly! https://www.patternsforpirates.com/
My go-to is the Tabitha t-shirt from Tilly and the Buttons’ book “Make it Simple”. For me, the fit is just right and I love the retro look of the ringer tee version. If you can borrow the book from your local library, you can download a PDF of the pattern for free.
I haven’t made it but I’ve read good reviews of the Closet Core T (Core T-Shirt Pattern - Free Tshirt Pattern | Closet Core Patterns)
My favourite at the moment if I don’t want overly fitted is Basic Instinct T Secondo Piano but I couldn’t find the link for it.
My go to pattern is the Rowan Bodysuit & Tee by Megan Nielsen. I think it’s very well engineered and versatile! It’s very fitted so some people might want to size up. I’ve used it for wool or wool/silk jersey (my favourite material) which is super stretchy so it fits perfectly for me
It all depends on the proportions of the body for which you are sewing.
My favorite t-shirt patterns are the Concord Tee by Cashmerette - which is drafted and designed for cup sizes C through H - and the Laundry Day Tee by Love Notions. It’s got more of a swingy silhouette, which I like to skim over the fluff on my midriff.
I second the Core Tee. It has a lot of options, and the instructions are clear. I made mine in a French terry, which is pretty stable. If you’re new to stretch, consider trying it.
Thanks for the tip about the local library.
