Hi, I was just thinking that I would like to sew capsule wardrobes based on colour. I sorted my fabrics by colour and they basically just got mixed up in a random order. This is because the majority of my fabrics contain more than one colour. I was wondering if perhaps there could be a “main colour” category where only one colour, the background or most predominant colour could be listed as we set up the page for that fabric. I know I can filter using the colour category and pick one colour that way, but sometimes I like the thought of just scrolling through all of my fabrics and be able to see all the fabrics with a similar colour story lumped together, and not only one colour story, but groupings of each main colour. Then when we sort by name alphabetically or by date purchased, or by colour, etc, there could be a category for main colour instead of getting a mixed up selection of fabrics because they contain several colours. I hope that makes sense.
I’d suggest adding say “Main Blue” to the colours listed on a fabric - then you could filter by that perhaps
?
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I knew I could do that, and it is helpful to do it, but what I was trying to say, but missed the mark, was on the main fabric page, where you can see all of your fabrics at once, I wanted them to pop up with for example, all the blues together, then the mustards, then the greens, then the pinks, ( order doesn’t matter, that’s just for example). I’d like to see all of my fabrics at once, but sorted by main colour in their groupings. I wanted to use it for inspiration like people often do when they have open shelves and sort each shelf by colour. They can see all of the colours, but it isn’t overwhelming because they are shelved by colour. Each fabric would probably have to be categorized with the main colour listed, either as you just demonstrated, or in a second section as main colour. Then on the main page, rather than “sort by colour” which looks at every colour you have listed and inadvertently scrambles the fabrics with no rhyme or reason to the colour, because most fabrics have more than one colour in them, just have them sorted by main colour that was listed when making each individual fabric page. It would have worked great the way it is , if all fabrics were solids, but mine certainly aren’t. For some reason, the more colours they have, the prettier they are. ![]()
Hi have you tried sorting by colour?
The result may depend on the quality of the photos but I think it does what you’re asking.
I use the main colour as the first word in the fabric name field, that way when sorted alphabetically, it puts them all together kind of how you describe (if I’m reading it right). But I actually really like your idea of having a main and sub colour category, that would be handy.
