I just recently spotted and used the Pre-ordered option under fabrics for the first time and wondered if anyone else felt that this status would be better placed under the Wishlist heading? Currently it’s under ‘Unused’ so by default, anything preordered shows up and I have to filter out by actually filtering IN the other options. It doesn’t feel logical to me as I’ve not currently got the fabric, so can’t actually use it (where as everything else in unused is currently available to me).
I’m very curious to see what other people think on this one as the thought here was you could feel confident you can start planning projects with a fabric that is marked as “Preordered”.
I guess for me, if I’m planning a future project or adding a ‘just an idea’, then I quite happily grab the potential fabric from my wishlist. But if I’m starting a project now and scrolling through which fabrics to use today, I don’t need to see what isn’t currently available to me but could be arriving in a few weeks time etc.
As always, just my thoughts, and would be really good to have other opinions.
For now at least, I’ll move everything I’ve marked as preordered back to my wishlist and prefix the names instead as I’d done previously ![]()
I’ve used Pre-ordered since it was available and like it in with uncut for a couple of reasons
1 - it comes up on the default filter so I get a constant reminder it’s on its way (and don’t order it again!). I use Date Added or Date Purchased as my sort order so it’s generally at the top of the list. I use Wishlist for Fabrics sparingly, mostly to add a fabric that takes my fancy and generally I then forget about it and end up deleting it later. Parcels from overseas suppliers can take more than a week to arrive.
2 - I can add it to projects and see it’s been assigned (I’m trying to use stash and only order special fabrics or those required to complete a project). I don’t add fabrics on my Wishlist to projects.
With the update released tonight, with customisable filters, maybe you can set up a filter with Pre-ordered in with Wishlist rather than editing all your records.
@TheWizard I use pre-ordered on Fabrics the same as @JD3205 describes above.
@JanP the suggestion about using Saved Filters by @JD3205… Looks good ![]()
See tutorial here How To Use and Save Filters the feature is available to StashHub Plus subscribers and is part of the latest app update in Stash Hub Version 1.48.0.
I use pre-ordered all the time, and it’s definitely separate from Wishlist for me. Knowing that the fabric is ordered and on its way, I can easily start creating projects and add them to my queue so when the fabric arrives, I’m ready to go.
It’s really interesting seeing how others use pre-ordered and I’m definitely in the minority lol - I’d never used it previously so I’m very open to other options, and seeing the saved filter update, that will for sure be helpful for me rather than moving the subcategory ![]()
I always put ordered fabric in pre ordered section. I’ve never used the wishlist. Probably because when I want something I order it!
I use pre-ordered for all online purchases. It reminds me of what I’ve ordered, and coming into inventory.
For me, this is such an important feature when I’m adding new fabric.
After placing my order, I add fabrics right away from the tabs in Safari with the pre-ordered status, as sometimes (later) the fabric is no onger available from my suppliers in France.
This also allows me to control the order and shipping documents.
I might add, I have over 4’000 meters of fabric on hand, thus, a huge lifesave for me.
‘Preordered’ is something that has, in my opinion, already been purchased and therefore it is actually mine, even though I may not physically have it yet. ‘Wish list’ is something that I am thinking about and may or may not acquire in the future.
As soon as I place an online order I add the fabric to stash hub and mark it as preordered, changing it to unused when I actually receive it. That way I can see instantly what I am still waiting to arrive.
If I have ordered fabric with a specific project in mind I also add that to the projects section (so I remember what is was for) and mark the project as ‘on hold’ until the fabric has arrived.
