It’s Sew Fruity time of year! I have hosted the Sew Fruity challenge on my personal blossomsandwich insta since 2021. Whenever I see a strawberry fabric I can’t help but remember the first iteration of the challenge back in 2021, when I made this strawberry Bakerloo blouse:
I struggled with my mental health through the lockdowns, but taking up sewing and joining in with the sewing community helped bring me joy. I met lots of supportive friends, who encouraged me to host my first fruit themed sewing challenge and sewed their fruity fabrics along with me. Still plugging away with Instagram for the time being, but the sense of community has definitely diminished there - stay tuned for the new social platform for crafters that Doug is currently working on ![]()
My first make of #SewFruity26 is a cute and simple dress that I’ll donate to Dress A Girl which sends handmade dresses to kids in need:
Next up is my first Bestie Bag (I swear everyone else has made at least 6!). It’s a banana shaped bag, plus the banana print denim, so double banana. I’ve also got another fruity fabric for the lining and a fruity label! Shame I’m the only one that can’t win a prize since I’m the host!
Are you planning to sew anything fruity or join in any of the other challenges this month?
