When I saw this rosey border fabric at my favourite craft thrift store I knew it was destined for my stash. I love the shades of royal and deep blue, aqua, green and lilac and I’m a sucker for roses.
It took me a while to arrive at the perfect pattern. I reached for the Charm Patterns Stanwyck bodice, also in my stash.
And joyous happenstance - the fabric co-ords perfectly with an earlier project: a lilac Charm Patterns Brooklyn jacket lined with aqua Charmeuse.
Beautiful pairing of fabric + dress @Vintagepenny55 ![]()
Gorgeous dress! Loving the use of the word ‘happenstance’ too!
Lovely!
I’m a big Gertie fan too though not made the Stanwyck bodice yet.
I have very narrow, sloped shoulders and am not sure if this shoulder/armsycye would help or emphasise that?
I have narrow shoulders too. I joke I am a triangle since my Charm patterns upper bust is a Size 4, my waist and 8 and my hips a 12 (on a good day). I find this bodice fits me perfectly in a 4DD with some waist grading. The only chance I made was to alter the curve of the sleeve. There was a little too much armpit showing as seen in this photo
Both lovely makes! ![]()

So do you mean you altered the curve at the bottom of the armsyce?
Wow I love this. You make quite a dash in it.
Both the Stanwyck and Carmen have the same dramatic curve cap sleeve and armsyce. For some (others have said this too) where the C of the curve sits can feature a less than attractive spot on the underarm. I redrew the curve so it landed in a more flattering position. I hope that explains it, or perhaps you are still scratching your head.
