Short break, but I’m baaaack!

Hi all! Short vent here. I sew for myself, my kids, and occasionally for friends and family. I learned how to sew as a child and made things off and on until my hobby really took off in 2020 and I have had at least one project actively in the works at all times since then. Well, the ish hit the fan about mid December with my step dad’s cancer taking a sudden turn for the worse and I haven’t had the mojo or the time to sew since then. A whole month. I can barely breathe! :weary::sweat_smile: Well, today I changed that and I cut out eight (8) projects! Seven pairs of undies for Mr 6-almost-7-who-keeps-growing, as well as one memory bear plushie (with embroidery) as a memento for my mom. :sob:

So, I’m back! And just in time for this new forum.

P.S. Mr 6 wanted to cut out patterns for me for fun (:star_struck:) so I suggested he pick out a simple plushie pattern and he could not only cut out the pieces but he could MAKE IT HIMSELF AND OMG THE SQUEALS OF DELIGHT!!! He wants to make a pink pterodactyl! :joy:

Awww I can’t wait to see the pink pterodactyl!!
I still have the first sewing project I ever made, I also was about 6 or 7! No one in my family really knew how to sew, but I was obsessed with my great grandmother’s sewing machine that we had. My sister had pulled out the machine to hem a dress, and while it was out I made a little blanket for my stuffed animals. It wasn’t good, but honestly wasn’t that bad for a 6 year old with no sewing knowledge and minimal help. That really was how I started sewing though, I had so much fun and was so proud of it, and I’m pretty sure that was when my mom started looking for a sewing class for me!

Yay, so glad you’ve been able to find some time to get going on your sewing again. And so sweet that Mr 6 is so excited to start sewing - you’ve clearly inspired him!

How cool is it that Mr. 6 wants to sew?!? We bought our 10-year-old grandson his first sewing machine for Christmas and he’s totally pumped. He wants to learn how to sew plushies so he can design his own. I’ve worked with him to make a simple pillow so far, and he was crazy proud of himself.
