I’m curious to hear about the main difficulties you face when it comes to organising your sewing?
I’m planning to create some resources to help sewists get organised and I want to make sure I’m focusing on the problems that affect you!

My main problem is space. J have fabric and pattern pdf’s stacked up on everything.
I few a problems
• Motivation. I have adhd, so a lack of motivation to do things is something I struggle with when it comes to most things, but something about organizing my sewing stuff is abnormally hard for me.
• It’s just really overwhelming. I have most of my fabric organized pretty well in a bunch of small plastic bins (it’s not the greatest way to store it, but it’s not bad considering I have very limited space/money so I can’t really get any new furniture), but I still haven’t been able to get it all uploaded on the app. I’ve tried to go slow, I’ve tried to just spend a day adding everything, but I just haven’t been able to do it. I know this app will be super helpful once I have everything in it, but there’s so much fabric that it can be really overwhelming.
• My organization systems don’t work the best, but I don’t know how to fix it. My fabric ends up being a mess really quickly. I’ll pull it out and not put it back, I can never figuring out where to new fabric, I end up with random scraps everywhere, and in general I have a hard time finding what I’m looking for. I know I need a different system to organize all of it, but I don’t know what that system is.
Dithering. I have lots of patterns, and lots of fabric. But even when I buy fabric for a specific project, I change my mind. I was kind of hoping the magic mockup would help me control the dithering, but it seems like I try so many different combinations that I can’t decide which one I like best. Then . . . to spite myself, I go off and make something out of an old tablecloth instead because I don’t want to cut into the ‘good’ stuff. ![]()
I am generally okay with big things, and my dressmaking fabrics are in a semi organised state, but I struggle with all the little bits, especially as I’ve got lots of smaller bits I’ve bought for quilting, where I like to keep the same ranges together ![]()
Also tips on how to add all the tiny bits to stash hub… it seems like a mammoth job ![]()
I also need a solution to all the offcuts and spare fabric from quilts as I don’t want o just get rid of them
as most were gifts I was tempted to make one quilt block from all the offcuts of each previous projects as a bit of a mini quilt library ![]()
I’m completely lost when it comes to organising notions! I know I bought a refill for my clover chaco chalk pencil, but can I find it when I need it?
I have some things willy-nilly, some in those tackle style boxes, some in smallish bins, some in drawers. I can’t imagine how I would use stash hub to keep track of them even though I’ve seen that notions can be entered…my fabrics and patterns are super well entered into stash hub but I can’t seem to take it to the next level ![]()
Hi, everything you’ve written really resonates with me! I have stash all over the place, a lot not even in the house, which makes it so much more overwhelming because I suffer from ‘out of sight, out of mind’. I have considered trying body doubling, but don’t know where to start with that either lol
I’ve started a new thread ADHD/OCD Sewists support group so we can gather suggestions to help all in one place!
How to comfortably organize limited space. I’m pretty organized in general, I know where everything is even when it gets a little messy mid project. But, being crowded into a small space makes organizing in a way that keeps things easy to get to is really hard. For instance: I rarely use my loop turner. I know where it is, but getting to it is such a pain in the neck. I have to move all my boxes of other supplies or fabrics to get to the box that has the loop turners (or rivets, or specialty trim or whatever thing I need…). It gets real aggravating.
