Ponte vs stretch denim [advice for converting pattern measurements please]

Any advice on how to convert measurements for a Ponte fabric to using stretch denim for some pull on trousers? Hoping it can be achieved! Thanks

[EDIT by Moderator @ClaireSews: I adjusted the topic title to hopefully get you more replies . ]

Do you have a pattern for any stretch denim or stretch woven pants even if not the style you want?
Is so, I’d use the stretch denim pattern to check against the Ponte pattern at critical points.

Does the pattern specify stretch percentage? If your stretch denim has the same stretch percentage as the ponte you should be able to make the same size. If it has less stretch you’ll probably need to size up.

Definitely less stretch!

I have tried to compare but the maths is fixing me!

@LauraB there is interesting advice from the Patternreview.com website in an old post from 2018… STRETCH WOVEN AND PONTE PANTS FROM SAME PATTERN?

I’ve screenshot it :framed_picture: below :arrow_heading_down:

First the original OP question :arrow_heading_down:

Then the interesting answer from user Nancy :arrow_heading_down:

In Nancy’s example she’s converting from stretch woven to ponte,so if you reverse her method for your own needs it might work so you can use ponte fabric for your trousers?

@LauraB also the Melly Sews blog has a great post Guide to Fabric Substitutions – When can you switch fabrics? and an accompanying YouTube video.

Below is her flow chart guide :arrow_heading_down:

Oh this is terrific - thanks so much! I shall study in detail! X
