Overlocker Cones - Storage Wanted

Does anyone have a really effective way of storing overlocker cones and smaller woolly nylon cones?

I’ve got a wooden rack like the screenshot below for my normal spools, but haven’t stumbled across an attractive way to store the bigger cones with wider bases. I’ve not got 100s of them, but enough that I would like to store them neatly but have them easily visible (mostly so I don’t keep re-buying what I’ve already got  :joy:

I’d love the answer to this. My smaller ones fit on my normal rack but the big cones are just stacked in the corner. I was told on a babylock overlocker course that I could get away without buying 4 spools as you can use a bobbin for the needles. No idea why that hadn’t occurred to me before.

It’s not all that pretty but I’ve been storing mine in drawers in rolling carts. I have both Serger cones and smaller cones for top stitching. Since I use both a Serger and a Coverstich I usually order 6 cone of each color, 4 for serger and 2 for Coverstitch, plus I have 2 cones for top stitch threads (heavier weight). Which I use in the CS depends on project so I need both often. With so many the drawers work well. They are just cheap plastic rolling carts with drawers. They slide under my work table.

I’ve not loaded in all my notions but I did add in all the colors of serger threads that I’ve gotten so I can keep up with the colors. I stock up when Wawak is having a buy X get X sale. Recently just ordered like 10 colors, buy 1 get 1, so got 6 for the price of 3.

I had a custom shelving unit made. It’s attached to the side of a wardrobe. I live really small so have to be creative

Very clever idea.

I’ve used bobbins for the needles in both my overlocker and coverstitch :slightly_smiling_face: I’m just not the biggest fan of having to re-thread as often as bobbins require!

I was given twice as much by a professional sewist some years ago. I gifted more than half.

I store my cones in a transparant box with pegs, or in a drawer. I don’t want my yarn to get dusty, my machines are too valuable to be used with dusty yarn!

I store mine in a small drawer unit as well. I do not always use matching thread for my serger,so don’t have many colors. Just the basics and then I use regular spools for the needles.

I have a rack like that, but for the big cones. I got it from a neighbor, so I don’t know where she found it.

I saw hemline have a big spool storage thing. I’m not sure if they will do for cones but definitely for coats moon thread if that’s of any use.

Those are a clever idea :+1:t3:

I read a thing that said not to store thread anywhere the sun could affect it. Apparently it damages the integrity of the thread. I knew about the sun fading fabric but not about thread.

I have mine in a big box and cream, white and black in separate boxes. I like to have colours that match my fabrics.
