My first shirt, the Amy shirt

I’ve finished making my first proper shirt. It’s the Amy shirt by Sew Over It. I bought this pattern on release day as a kit but wanted to practice first so this is a wearable toile. I did have some issues with the pattern, mainly with the collar and stand. The stand was to big and I had too trim off about half an inch. I put the collar on and then thought it was wrong as it went right to the end of the stand. Looking at other shirts in my wardrobe I realised that it shouldn’t be like that. When I fasten it, it overlaps slightly although not as much as I thought it would. It is a nic collar. Every other pattern piece was spot on.

Also ( nothing to do with the pattern) I got confused with the right and wrong side so I ended up using the wrong side as the right side and taking the pocket off and putting it on the new right side. Both sides of fabric look the same.

I need to check the pattern pieces for collar before making again. Despite these issues it was an enjoyable sew. I made size 8 with no alterations and it fits perfectly. Even the sleeves didn’t need shortening. Now I want to make lots of shirts.
Has anyone else made this pattern and if so how did it go?

I’ve not made this pattern myself - so I cannot feedback on it. But, I find stitching shirt collars tricky at the best of times - so well done to you for working through the niggles you found on your Amy :woman_s_clothes: :+1:t3:

Great job for persevering, your finished shirt looks great! Sounds like you’ve learnt a lot, so you’ll have a smoother sew on the next shirt (and the next and the next…)

I didnt have any issue with the collar or stand. Lots of pins but didnt need much easing in. The do take a bit of practice. Shirts looks fab

Have a watch of Sew sew live, i like her method of doing collars

Maybe I traced the pieces wrong. I will check next time I make it.
