Multiple Cuts of same fabric

Hi Everyone,
I just purchased some fabric today - super duper cheap.
I have three pieces versus one length. How do you organize in SH? Do you make a new entry for each piece OR do you enter the total and list the different lengths in the notes?

I’m wondering how best to handle this.
TIA, Maya

what a great question! i’m here for anyone’s answers to this.. i have a fair amount of fabric that is in chunks rather than a continuous length and would love to know how folks manage it.
for myself, i tend to estimate the full length and then theoretically write in notes “1x 1yrd, 1x 0.5yrd” or whatever the chunks are but i don’t tend to remember that part.

I list separate cuts of identical fabric in separate records.

I list it once, fill in all the info I want, then “Duplicate” the record… And make sure I edit the fabric name to:
a.) remove the text “(copy)” that automatically gets added to the end of the Name,
b.) add text [Piece 1 of 2] to the Name, and
c.) use my custom Tag :1234: Multiple Cuts of Same Fabric” (so I can use Filters to look for them later if need be).

I list it in one entry and note the different lengths in the description.

This is what I do as well; record separately using copy. That helps me use up the smaller pieces when I can instead of cutting into the larger. It also lets me know that a limited amount of length is available if I need it all in one piece like for a maxi skirt or dress.

oooh i LOVE getting to spy on your tags, thank you! i’m gonna do “flawed fabric” too, i accept fabric from freecycle/buy nothing/etc that’s ripped worn stained etc… and mostly use it for toiles, sometimes for linings like pillow linings which will never be displayed but it’s helpful to keep track!!!
