Making progress

I have gone on a binge entering patterns. What an eye opener. When I first got back into sewing (and using digital patterns for the first time) I went a little crazy. Maybe it was because I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted and I was willing to put Top A onto Skirt B and add Sleeves C and pockets D. . . and it mostly worked. But that meant I bought patterns because I liked one part of one view and now I have so many of them. It’s been a learning experience! But how great is it to see them all in one place, and sortable and searchable? I love having pictures, description, fabric and size charts so I don’t have to open a bunch of pdf files to discover none of them work with the fabric I have. I’ve also been entering fabric which is a bit frustrating, because when I buy on impulse, I end up with just a bit less than I actually need to make anything. My hope is once I’m organized I can cut down on impulse buys and actually use what I have. A huge thank you! :two_hearts:

I need to do this too. I always forget which patterns I have or don’t have. And like you said, comparing yardage and stuff is so handy.

Don’t be discouraged if you have just not enough. Often pattern companies give you the maximum yardage you would need so if you’re doing a smaller size or a different view, sometimes you can Tetris the pattern out of it.
Another thing I’ll do is cut facings and pocket bags. Anything that’ll be on the inside of the garment out of a different fabric so that I can have enough of the one I love to make the project I want.

Yay, so glad you’re loving your pattern catalogue! I find it’s so easy to accumulate sewing patterns. With your willingness to pattern hack (mix and match parts from different patterns) you’ll have endless options!

I’ve done the same thing, I now have all my patterns entered. It made me sort out those that no longer fit my body nor my style and I sold some, vinted and communal yard sale, and gave more away on our local free cycle group. It’s very freeing as I now have a library of patterns I really like, in my size and more suited to my current lifestyle p.

What a great experience! I’m so pleased Stashub has been helping you in this way.
I find that I can often cut a garment out of less than the recommended amount of I cut it out in one layer.

Oh yes, I’ve destashed a few patterns too. Pity though I’ve lost two of my favourite paper patterns. I’ve cleared out my stash a few times, downsizing for international moves and foolishly though I’d never use them again . . .

I struggle to do this because I sew for others in a wide range of ages and sizes.

When I had my vintage pattern collection I got rid of the ones that were too big for me and now that I’ve grown I’m having to get new patterns in larger sizes.

I guess I could go through my stash and keep the most unique and the most basic? So I’d have the ability to mix and match pieces?

I’m looking forward to Sew Sorted and seeing what the suggestions will be!
