This year, I’m trying to branch out from the very simple tops I’ve been making (the typical “Sew the shoulders, sew on the sleeves, sew up the side seams, add a neckband, sleeve band, hem band” types of projects).
I decided to give the Time Out Tank from Pattern Emporium a go to practice binding. There’s a bit of puckering but I think I did pretty well for my first time! The fabric is a really soft rib knit from Knighton Fabrics (bought back in 2022 in one of their warehouse sales and not available now).
I really liked this technique compared to others I’ve tried. Instead of folding in the middle and then folding both sides in, this one leaves one edge raw, so it was much less fiddly. I used a tutorial from Karina at Lifting Pins and Needles to help me along, too.
I’ve watched quite a lot of Karina’s videos, she’s got a great one about different types of neck binding which I’ve watched several times over, but I hadn’t seen this one (or technique) before, so thanks for posting the link
I don’t see puckering in your top, I thin kit looks good, but then we’re all overly critical of our own work!
I really struggle with applying binding … especially the narrower it is, the messier it looks. I’ll have to check out Karina’s video - thank you for sharing (and your tank looks gorgeous!).

Often when something hasn’t turned out quite right, it’s because I didn’t listen to the little “What would Karina do?” in my head.
