How Many Projects A Month?

Hello All!
I am trying to set more realistic goals/expectations for my sewing. So my question for the community is on average how many projects do you make and finish in a month?

I know there are fast and slow sewists and some projects are much more labor intensive than others and a million other variables. But I am interested in all thoughts and processes.

Do you have any questions you ask yourselves to assess what you want to get done that month?

Thanks in advance!

It depends upon how much free time you have. I no longer work fulltime so I’m able to normally complete a simple project in a week and something more complex may take 2 or 3 weeks. I joined the 25 in 2025 challenge and have completed 7 projects thus far.

I’m aiming for 1 a month this year - which does mean i have about 10 year’s worth of fabric in my stash !!!

I’m honestly not sure! It’s something I’m trying to track more closely year, although I feel like that still won’t give a particularly consistent answer lol

In January, I only finished two projects, a pair of upcycled jeans and a bag based on one from a movie. The bag was a pretty time consuming project as I had to figure out the design myself, plus it was make with a material I don’t use often. I didn’t finish anything in February, as I was on vacation for 2 weeks, plus preparing for and recovering from the vacation the other 2 weeks lol

I suspect that number will be drastically different in March though, because I have a lot of products to make for my shop, which are mostly bags that I can make a bunch of at once with an assembly line.

I’m pretty sure I joined that one too!

I don’t even try to figure out how long it would take to sew up all my fabric :joy: have to set much smaller goals. Love the one you have set for yourself.

I hear you about vacation and recovery time!
I do agree that batch Sewing does speed up the process

If I need something, I make it. I don’t set myself a target. I needed some basics and I was on enforced rest for a health issue last month so I think I made 8 simple garments. In January I made nothing. If I want to make something that coincides with a challenge, I’ll enter it but I don’t feel compelled to join in with every hashtag or keep up with a YouTuber who churns out multiple garments a week. I know my time limits, my budget, my needs, my skill and my style and I’ll sew accordingly as a source of enjoyment.

I have a target of at least 1 project a month (i set myself some targets with a bingo square), but im not being fussy about the size or complexity.

I completed 3/4 projects in feb, but haven’t done anything yet this month, but I am off work next week so will likely make a couple of things then.

I don’t really think about what I’m making in advance, much - I generally make what i feel like making, if that makes sense?

@Ecm98 You made sense! How do you use your bingo card? I make up bingo cards for my household chores but not for sewing!

Oh it’s not very complicated!

I basically just had a think about stuff I’d like to complete this year and chucked it into a bingo square! Its not the end of the world if I don’t hit them, but it’s nice to have some targets to get to!

Love that!!

Pre working in an office everyday, I accomplished more. Now I’d say it is realistically 1-4 per month depending on complicated level and other things I have to do.

I don’t set targets for myself now, but it usually works out to be approximately two projects per month. Some months I make more than others. I plan my projects around gaps in my wardrobe. Currently I’m making skirts and holiday items.

Last year I completed 9 projects (counting sets of undies and leggings batch sewn as 1 item/set). So 0.75 project/month on average.

The last few months have been pretty busy so I’ve only done 1 project (the Tammy Handmade Simi skirt). I made it too big though and need to take it in, so I’m not counting it as completed yet.

I love batch sewing. Until I make too big a batch

I think I need to pay attention to what else is happening in my life. As you said working outside the home leaves less sewing time

I am realizing I set too big of goals. I need to transition them to dreams!

I have only just joined the forum so happily browsing here (as i dont do social media) I sew for me only because thats how I like it. So if i want something I’ll make it, but my problem is i always want something so i constantly have things to make and little time to do the making. I on average i probably make 1 item a month. I spend my life tracing patterns and making adjustments that takes alot of time too.
