Following on from this Facebook post https://www.facebook.com/share/p/5iaS1rQscHJG4sNF/ by Syreeta Briana, I thought I’d write up in detail about how I personally manage multiple copies of the same pattern
.
I have a few patterns in multiple copies… sometimes it’s 2x paper patterns (i.e. different size ranges), or it’s owning both paper and PDF formats.
I handle multiple pattern copies by…
(Initially) creating x1 single pattern record.
Adding in all the information, details, photos etc.
Name the initial single pattern as follows…
E.g: “Dress”
Add text to the “Description” field box listing ALL of the multiple different copies (or formats)
E.g.:
“Own this in size range envelope A5(6-14) and E5(14-22).”
(NB: This is just to remind myself about my other copies and the specifics of those
.)
Adding a custom Tag:
“
Multiple Copies of Same Pattern”
… so I can filter my patterns to find them later.
(NB: I find that by using an emoji at the start of what I personally deem to be extra-special “Tags” that the app automatically places them at the end of all of the other Tags in alphabetical order. It makes them super easy to find quickly when filtering later on… BTW I use a A LOT OF TAGS so this technique is super useful to me
.)
AFTER adding all the important details (to save me having to repeat any typing later on)… NEXT is when I DUPLICATE the pattern record.
Duplicates automatically get “(copy)” added to the end of their name…
E.g. “Dress” duplicated creates a new record named “Dress (copy)”.
IMPORTANT: Currently duplicate copies automatically get the “Date Acquired” populated with the date that the “duplicate” copy was created on (NOT the date that the original was acquired on). So, don’t forget to alter it (as/if necessary)! ![]()
Then, in the multiple records “Dress” and “Dress (copy)” I alter their names appropriately…
E.g.:
“Dress [1st Copy - Sizes 8-14]”
“Dress [2nd Copy - Sizes 16-24]”
Finally, I tweak any data in the duplicate record…
Pattern Format
Location
Price
Date Acquired
Size Range
Status
etc.
And, I’m done! ![]()
