I’m planning to post this project to Instagram tomorrow for the #SewUpcycle25 reveal date. Don’t forget to post your challenge entries before the end of the month! Here’s the round up of October sewing challenges: October 2025 Sewing Challenges - Stash Hub
I made a special dress for my mum! For this project, I upcycled the skirt my nan wore to my wedding by combining it with the oldest fabric in my stash to create a dress. The navy fabric was in my stash for 1960 days before being sewn up, and I’ve had the skirt even longer. I went for a tried-and-true pattern that I’ve made for my mum a few times - the classic Sew Over It Betty Dress.
I shortened the skirt so I could create a facing with the print. I really like how this detail turned out - I think it really brings the dress together.
This make is just as beautiful on the inside, as it’s fully lined!
My mum had the time of her life strutting her stuff on the Stash To Style catwalk I hosted. I’m looking forward to hosting another catwalk soon at the Harrogate Knit + Stitch show - let me know if I’ll see you there?
She’s already worn it out dancing and is planning to bring it on her cruise holiday, so I’m confident it will well loved. She’s already put in her next dress request by way of @little.rosy.cheeks ‘Made By My Daughter’ labels ![]()
PATTERN: @sewoveritlondon Betty Dress #SOIBetty with a gathered skirt instead of a circle skirt. I made size 10 for my mum.
FABRIC: Bodice - Navy Modal Twill bought from @lamazifabrics in my first ever fabric haul in 2020!
UPCYCLE: Tiered cotton skirt that belonged to my late nan (my mum’s mum)
CHALLENGE: #SewUpCycle25 hosted by Becky @notes_from_the_sewing_room and Karen @sew.little.time. UK entry ![]()
