Ability to choose default categories?

So, I keep diligently entering my stash and I noticed something I found annoying, and thought it might be a good idea to change the default settings OR be able to choose between 2 sets of default settings: specifically in fabric category.

I’m talking about where it says “Fabric not prewashed” I think the assumption is that it is not washed unless you mark it as washed… as when I am inputting a fabric I am not necessarily thinking of that, I’m just trying to get the damn thing in before I forget or lose info about it. I feel you should choose to toggle “washed” or "prewashed"and assume it’s not washed, not the other way around. I only wash fabric either right before I use it or in a small batch of fabric I think I’ll use soon and THAT is where I would enter a new action. I can’t tell if an item is actually prewashed or if I just forgot to click the button… It might be nice to either have options (not washed, prewashed) or default to clicking only prewashed or being able to choose your own set of default parameters that apply to all your entries.

This only came up as I washed a bunch of fabric yesterday and I wanted to enter it in as washed and it was not an option for me. Then the idea of going through all my fabric to mark it as not prewashed is a BEAR. Also, maybe a step in the project section? A check box for prepare fabric, above prepare pattern?

I haven’t been properly caffeinated this morning so forgive any thought or typing errors lol

Hi @korin,

I’m not entirely following but to clarify what the currently functionality in the app is:

  1. The default state is “not washed”
  2. You can use filters to filter for fabric that is washed vs unwashed
  3. You can use bulk edit to change the state of multiple records at once

I think an improvement would be to change the “checkbox” to a “toggle”. What do you think?

I think it might be the UK terminology vs. my US brain… to me, having to check that something is not prewashed (or not washed, to me) is backwards. It feels like it should be Washed, check box fabric is washed. SO you only need to do anything if you wash it.

I don’t know. It’s obviously my problem, lol

This is how it is.

EDIT 31st July 2025: by Moderator @ClaireSews to add an image to illustrate the change to the displayed text after the checkbox has been ticked :white_check_mark: .

OMG I am such a dork. I did not realize that when you check the box the value changed. I thought it stayed the same. MAJOR DORK MOMENT
