My latest completed project is one my Mom hired me to make for her. My father is a professional real-bearded Santa Claus, and my Mom joins him as his Mrs. Claus. She typically wears the “in the kitchen” style dress and pinafore I made for her a couple years ago. But my stepdaughter requested that my Dad wear his red tuxedo to her wedding in February, so Mom needed a formal-style dress, and it turns out they were hired to work a wedding this December, so she needed to expand her Mrs. Claus wardrobe anyway.
I used the Madeline Dress pattern by Gertie of Charm Patterns (from her book Gertie’s Charmed Sewing Studio) and used red and white stretch sateen fabric I sourced at Fabrictopia in San Antonio, TX. The neckline features a silver beaded applique (also from Fabrictopia SA).
Sewing is freaking magical, y’all. My entire life, my mother has hated clothes shopping. She’s 5’1" and very curvy, and it’s always been difficult if not impossible to find anything off-the-rack that actually fits her. Since I’ve begun sewing for her, I’ve seen a total change in her attitude. In fact, when she put on her new dress for the final fitting and hem, she instantly started giving me “princess hands” and she floated down the hallway to go show my dad. And she spun in circles and grinned like a little kid.
It’s magical, being able to give her clothing that fits and that she loves. I’m so blessed by this hobby!
Anyway, thanks for reading and checking out the pics. (Aren’t my parents adorable?!?)
