A couple of suggestions… [Patterns in Magazines]

I have a large collection of sewing magazines, such as Burda and Fibre Mood. At the moment, I keep track of the patterns in each issue by taking a copy of the line drawing pages and store them in folder. I’ve been looking for a way to keep these alongside my other patterns so I can search everything in one place.

I appreciate that adding magazine patterns to the existing Pattern section would be difficult because each magazine contains multiple designs and it would mean adding them separately. However, perhaps a separate Magazine Library section could work. It could allow users to store the line drawing pages from each issue with details of the magazine name and issue number. They could be categorised the type of patterns included—e.g. blouses, dresses and trousers. Then, for example, if I were searching for a blouse pattern, the magazine pattern pages that included a blouse would appear alongside my other pattern results. I think that would be a really valuable addition, not just for me but for anyone who regularly buys sewing magazines.

Another idea is a Mood Board section. I use powerpoint at the moment to create a board where I play around with styles and colours etc. I find it useful to home in on the look I want to achieve. I also use this to put together a holiday capsule.

Hey. Thanks for the feedback and ideas. Recording magazines is a tricky one and something we’ve been pondering for a long time without a concrete solution as of yet. Rest assured it’s a problem we’re working on though.

I don’t think we’ll implement a mood board (at least any time soon). With the flexibility of projects and now the new Notes section as well as the large number of mood board apps already out there it’s not a priority.

What I have done with. Oops ( where there are considerably fewer patterns than magazines is to photograph each pattern model and add them as separate patterns with the location being the name of the book - so I can filter by location and see on,y the patterns in that book.

I tend not to keep magazines as complete items, just removing any patterns that I will potentially make and storing them in the same way as individual patterns, with the pattern number being the magazine year/month of issue or the magazine no. For example Love Sewing 50 xxxxx (xxx being the pattern name on the magazine) or Burda 2019-131, and so on

Hi @ClaireSews :waving_hand: Thank you for this. I had read your post and you give some good pointers. I am entering the individual patterns I want to make from each issue but will continue to keep a separate record all patterns in each issue in a folder for now.
